SIMPLY (INNO-CCUS)

Project goal: Support and accelerate deployment of Danish biomass pyrolysis.

Project details

Project timeline: 2024-2026

Approach: The project analyses barriers, bottlenecks, and drivers across regulatory, incentive, and governance systems. The SIMPLY project develops best-practice guidance for permitting pyrolysis plants and applying biochar on agricultural land, and evaluates how policy frameworks can better support responsible, scalable pyrolysis solutions.

Expected results: The project will provide a consolidated overview of Danish pyrolysis potential, identify the regulatory and market conditions needed for scale-up, and deliver practical tools such as permitting guidance to support industry, municipalities, and policymakers. The outcomes are expected to enable faster, more consistent deployment of pyrolysis and biochar solutions in Denmark.

SkyClean’s contribution: Provide input on market dialogue, technology expertise and practical insights on pyrolysis system operation, barriers, and value chain challenges, informing the project’s assessments and best-practice recommendations.

Partners: Roskilde University, Ringkøbing-Skjern municipality, Region Midtjylland, CLEAN, and Stiesdal SkyClean.

Funding: Funded by INNO-CCUS.
