A centre for innovation, testing and validation

Located in GreenLab, the 2 MW Skive facility is SkyClean’s platform for technology development, feedstock validation, and operational learning. Operating under real-world conditions, the plant enables new feedstocks, process improvements, and system configurations to be tested before implementation in commercial projects.

Demonstration and innovation platform

The Skive plant serves as a full-scale platform for testing and validating SkyClean technology.

Located in GreenLab, the facility operates as part of an integrated energy system where biomass is converted into biochar and renewable energy, with surplus heat delivered to neighbouring offtakers.

This real-world environment enables continuous development of the SkyClean platform, including process improvements, feedstock validation, and energy integration concepts. The resulting operational data and experience support future commercial deployments.

Proven across multiple feedstocks

The facility has been used to evaluate a broad range of biomass feedstocks, generating data on process performance, biochar quality, energy output, and feedstock handling.

These insights expand the range of viable feedstocks and support the design of future projects based on locally available biomass resources.

Developed in partnership

The Skive facility is part of the EUDP-funded SkyClean 2 MW project, bringing together Stiesdal SkyClean, DTU, Dansk Gasteknisk Center, Topsoe, Ørsted, and Energy Cluster Denmark.

Through pilot and demonstration-scale operation, the partners have developed, tested, and advanced the SkyClean technology, generating the knowledge and experience required for commercial scale-up.

This work formed the foundation for the 20 MW SkyClean pyrolysis plant inaugurated in Vrå in 2024.
